Tarzo occupies a stretch of hills in the Marca Trevigiana overlooking the Revine lakes, two glacial-origin lakes shared with the neighbouring municipality of Revine Lago. The municipal territory includes the old hamlets of Fratta and Colmaggiore, known for murals that depict local traditions and history along the Prosecco Hills trail. These very hills, the Conegliano and Valdobbiadene hills, have been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Tarzo lies fully within them, with vineyards alternating with woods and small villages. This is not a destination of grand monuments but a landscape of hills and water, where Lago di Lago, fed by the Piaveson stream, offers quiet walking routes. It suits travellers seeking the more authentic side of the Marca Trevigiana, away from the larger towns but close to the Prosecco trails.

The story

The story of Tarzo

Hills between the Revine lakes

Tarzo's territory unfolds among morainic hills and the Revine lakes, two basins of glacial origin that occupy the Parco dei Laghi della Vallata, straddling the municipalities of Tarzo and Revine Lago. It is a landscape combining a lakeside setting with hilly vineyard country, typical of the Alta Marca Trevigiana.

Lago di Lago and the glacial landscape

The larger of the two lakes, known as Lago di Lago or San Giorgio, is fed by the Piaveson stream; the smaller one, Lago di Santa Maria, has more limited water circulation. The two basins are separated by a marshy area and connected by the Barche canal. Walking paths run around Lago di Lago, allowing visitors to observe this uncommon pre-Alpine wetland environment up close.

Fratta and Colmaggiore, the villages of murals

The hamlets of Fratta and Colmaggiore retain an old layout and are known for murals painted by various Venetian artists, depicting local traditions, history and folklore on house facades. Both hamlets lie along the Prosecco Trail, which links the villages of the Conegliano and Valdobbiadene hills.

The Winged Lion and the UNESCO Prosecco hills

On the lakeshore near Tarzo stands a large wooden sculpture of a winged lion, over seven metres tall, which has become a new symbol of the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It visually marks Tarzo's place within this protected vineyard landscape.

A land of vineyards and nature

Beyond the lakes, Tarzo's territory is marked by the viticulture of the Prosecco hills, with vine rows climbing the slopes between woods and small settlements. This blend of natural environment and farming landscape makes the town a popular stop for those following the hiking and cycling routes of the Alta Marca.
