История Cerea

The Fine Furniture Tradition

Cerea is known throughout Italy as one of the leading districts for fine furniture and period-style reproduction pieces, a craft and industrial sector that over the course of the 20th century transformed a local economy previously based almost exclusively on agriculture. Dozens of companies, many family-run, produce classic furniture, reproductions of period pieces and furnishings crafted with artisanal techniques passed down through generations. This vocation has made Cerea a national point of reference in the sector, supporting an entire supply chain of cabinet-makers, carvers, gilders and restorers.

The Crafts Exhibition

Cerea's craft identity is further reinforced by its long-standing Crafts and Small-and-Medium Industry Exhibition, a fair with a long tradition that each year brings together exhibitors from the furniture and furnishing sector, drawing visitors and trade professionals from across northern Italy. The event has helped consolidate Cerea's image as a reference point for the sector, while also showcasing local craft skills and providing a meeting point for producers, designers and the public.

Medieval Origins and the Parish Church of Cerea

Cerea's origins as a settlement date back to the medieval period, when its parish church served as a religious and administrative reference point for a broad area of the lower Verona plain. In subsequent centuries the town developed into a significant agricultural centre, with an urban layout that still preserves traces of this long settlement continuity in its historic core, among churches, public buildings and the street pattern typical of lower-plain towns that grew around a main commercial axis.

Farmland Between the Tartaro and the Adige

Despite its strong manufacturing vocation, Cerea's municipal territory remains largely agricultural, with fields growing cereals, fodder crops and market-garden produce typical of the lower Verona plain. The nearby Tartaro river and, a little further off, the Adige have historically provided irrigation water and secondary transport routes, contributing to the fertility of a territory that has managed to keep, alongside its industrial furniture development, a solid agricultural and livestock-farming base.

Everyday Life and the Local Community

Cerea is a town lived in mainly by its own residents and by professionals in the furniture sector, rather than a tourist destination in the strict sense. Local life revolves around craft and commercial activities, weekly markets and initiatives promoted by local associations. Visitors arriving in Cerea for business or for the Crafts Exhibition will nonetheless find a welcoming setting, with trattorias and restaurants serving simple food tied to the produce of the lower Verona plain.
